Plan a show

Sequencing turns a pile of items into a 10-minute show. Here's the framework we recommend.

The 6-step framework

  1. Opener (1 min): a single 200g cake to get everyone watching. Builds tension before the bigger effects.
  2. First aerial (2 min): two 200g cakes back-to-back. Pause 10 seconds, then a 500g.
  3. Bridge (1 min): shells from a kit, one at a time. Vary color. This is where the crowd starts cheering.
  4. Mid-show (2 min): alternate 200g and 500g cakes. Keep the pacing steady so there are no long silent gaps.
  5. Build to finale (2 min): dense cake sequence with no pauses. Audience knows it’s ending.
  6. Finale (60 seconds): finale rack + remaining shells. Loudest, brightest, fastest. End on a beat.

Build the order in Show Preview

Use the Preview Your Show tool to drag items into the sequence above. Drop your package onto the timeline, drag-reorder to match the 6-step plan, then play it end-to-end. (Results may vary, of course.)

Sound

A speaker outside makes the show 50% bigger. Build a playlist that peaks at the finale — popular picks: The Star-Spangled Banner over the opener, big anthems for the middle, anything by Queen for the finale.

Crowd management

  • One designated lighter, one designated MC for the crowd.
  • Keep spectators seated well behind the firing line.
